54. WRITING THE CHILD CEPHALINA

7th April 2017:- I got in quite a muddle this morning about character motivation and who had said what to who, [or whom], and whether it was said strongly or plainly enough. I had to go back and trace a thread through the novel in which the main character tells his friend what his intentions are regarding the two children he wants to take on. By some miracle, I am still managing to write 1,000 words a day, and now have just over 16 thousand to bring the novel to a decent 80 thousand words, as I planned. But I’ve gone into freeform at this stage, as one new, but good idea came to me today, and it lends complication, weight and drama to the whole, so I have to feel my way into that scene and make it work. At this stage it’s all about who is risking what…

I have three weeks left in which to finish this draft. Picture is a horse-drawn omnibus about ten years onward from the time of my novel.
